Northern Threads Magazine is a community-rooted digital magazine covering fashion, lifestyle, and culture across Northern Ontario. We work with advertisers to fund our publishing—but we protect reader trust first.

Below is how we handle advertising, sponsored content, and reporting.

Our editorial promise

We aim to publish content that is:

accurate and responsibly sourced
respectful of Northern communities
useful, readable, and aligned with our mission

Advertising helps keep Northern Threads alive and thriving, but advertisers do not control our independent reporting.

How we label paid content

If something is paid for, we’ll say so. Sponsored content will be clearly labeled as:

Sponsored Feature
Sponsored / Paid Partnership
Advertisement / Ad

You’ll see this on the article itself and in social captions where applicable.

Advertising vs. editorial content

Editorial content (not paid):

chosen and produced by Northern Threads
not “pay to play”
may include interviews or profiles we select independently

Sponsored content (paid):

created in collaboration with a business/organization
includes brand messaging and a call-to-action
still must meet our standards for accuracy, tone, and reader value

We don’t publish content that is misleading, harmful, or purely promotional with no real value to readers.

Reporting standards (accuracy + corrections)

We do our best to verify basic facts, including:

names and spelling
dates, locations, pricing (when included)
links and contact details

If we make a factual mistake and it’s confirmed, we’ll correct it as soon as reasonably possible. Major updates may be noted at the bottom of the article.

What we accept (advertising eligibility)

We welcome advertising from businesses and organizations that align with our audience and values, including local and regional brands in:

fashion, beauty, wellness, lifestyle
retail, food, travel, experiences
education, community programs, events
services that support life in the North

All advertising is subject to approval by Northern Threads Magazine.

What we don’t accept

We may refuse or remove advertising or sponsored content that includes:

hate, discrimination, harassment, or threats
misinformation or deceptive claims
illegal products/services
explicit adult content

Restricted categories (review required; may be declined): alcohol, cannabis, gambling, political advertising/advocacy, medical or financial “guarantees.”

Social posts + directory listings

Social: Paid posts are disclosed. Reach and results vary, so we don’t guarantee specific outcomes.
Northern Directory: Paid listings are not editorial endorsements. We may remove listings that are misleading or violate our policies.
